Is dual pricing (zero-fee processing) legal in Texas?

Accepted Answer

Dual pricing, where you post a cash price and a card price and the customer chooses how to pay, is used by many Texas merchants. It's different from surcharging, which adds a fee on top of the price and has its own card-network rules. Do I have to buy new equipment to switch?

Not always. Some existing terminals can be reprogrammed for a new processor. If yours can't, we'll match you with a terminal or POS from one of the platforms we carry and explain your equipment options before you sign anything.

Can I keep my current POS and only change processing?

Accepted Answer

In many cases, yes. Several POS platforms let you choose your processor, so we can move your card processing without changing how your staff rings up sales. We'll check your current system first and tell you plainly if it's locked to its own processing.
